Originally miscategorized during ability testing in 2022, recorded observations of Sweep post-2024 indicate rapid acquisition of consequential telekinetic ability. The cause of this sudden mastery is unknown, but may be taken as evidence of the subject's potential for further psionic development.

Sweep possessed an unprecedented and momentous power: he was able to not only review past events on demand, but to also directly and immediately revise them. Examinations suggest that such alterations began as only tenuous and unconscious, but under the influence of a psionic mentor from 2024 to 2025, the subject's control grew. By the end of 2024, Sweep presented an extreme threat to timeline stability and integrity. The full scope and ramifications of his interactions with our timeline remain under investigation to this day. Further reports may be retrieved from the DMC science division.

Upon registration, the subject detailed no confirmed source of metahumanity. The current working theory is that Sweep's original psionic capability was inherited from his mother (see file no.0524), who faced minor Diver exposure during Incident 3. More controversially, Sweep himself may have faced additional exposure during Incident 4.

Sweep registered as a metahuman in March of 2022 and spent the next year applying for various superhero training programs and licensed crime-fighting groups. A slew of minor criminal offenses followed. In September of that same year, Sweep fell in with noted criminal Marshall Kessler (see file no.0313).

Sweep was motivated foremost by moral decency, with a well-developed sense of right and wrong, bordering on idealism. This naivete can be attributed to his relative youth and inexperience, having only lived as a metahuman for a few short years.

In 2022, the subject presented at registration with symptoms of general anxiety disorder, prone to overthinking and quick to self-blame. In 2024, this deepened into an ingrained guilt complex, resulting in a more fragile overall mental state. Review of field agents' body-worn camera footage suggests dissociative episodes and trauma-induced acute leukophobia.

Among Sweep's unanswered criminal charges for 2024 were vigilantism, superpowered assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, conspiracy, breaking and entering, trespassing, and theft. In early 2025, one of his most heavily publicized crimes was breaking into the North Star General Hospital to steal the medical records of former long-term patient Bless, a decommissioned member of the Aureate.

“I need you to start being more transparent about the Narrator.”

“Who..?”

“Sweep.”

“Oh.” Chains gently clatter as he dips the brush and continues his topcoat. “We already covered this. Kid was obsessed with changing what happened to that cape girl. Bliss-or-whoever. Made himself sick and crazy over it. I tried getting him some help – even took him to see Zen a couple times. But it wasn't enough.” His hands are as steady as his voice while he strokes black polish onto the nail of his pinky. “Sweep lost his shit.”

“So you've said,” agrees the interviewer. “But what would you have done if he had succeeded?”

“And how do you know he didn't, hm? I mean, what do you think happens when someone alters the past? Most likely it splinters this timeline, right? Creates a whole new reality. And maybe over there, on a path adjacent to this one, he saved that girl and married her. And maybe over there, he and she and me are on top of the world together, laughing.” Without looking up, he quietly suggests, “And maybe over there, you're the sorry motherfucker in cuffs.”

The interviewer is unruffled. “Hypotheticals are handled in a different department, Mr Kessler. This timeline is the only one relevant to me. But if all that were true, then he would have no use to you.”

“Sure.” He dips the brush.

“What is the nature of your interest in Sweep's powers?”

“I already told you people. I felt, like, kindred with him. Precognition, retrocognition… Birds of a feather and all that.”

“You know we have ways of making you tell us.”

The overhead light flickers. A single wisp of smoke climbs from the ashtray. There are no cigarettes in it.

The subject has stopped painting. “… I don't want to talk to him.”

“Nobody does. So talk to me instead. What was it you wanted Sweep to go back and change?”

He returns the brush to the bottle and screws the cap on. Then he sits back, scraping his cuffs off the table and into his lap. From there he meets the interviewer's eye with only one of his own; the left has been sealed shut. The frame is still but for the clock in the corner.
