In 1993, Doctor Z, now Director of the Department of Metahuman Control (DMC)'s Science Division, created what would become the DMC Power Classification Scale, also known as the Tanaka Scale. According to Tanaka himself, the Tanaka Scale is imperfect, but it is stands as the DMC's recgonized standard for measurement.
I. THE TANAKA SCALE
D CLASS POWERS
- Superhuman Strength, allowing the empowered subject to be able to lift up to a ton without strain.
- Superhuman Durability, allowing the empowered subject's skin to be impenetrable by needles.
- Superhuman Speed, allowing the empowered subject to be able to maintain running at a speed of 32 kmh for 60 minutes.
- Shapeshifting allowing the empowered subject to be able to shapeshift into creatures that can potentially kill an unharmed human.
- Sound Generation allowing the empowered subject to be able to create noises at 130 db for 60 seconds.
- Healing, allowing the empowered subject to close surface wounds, heal contusions, or provide energy.
- Psychic Empathy, allowing the empowered subject to be able to read the emotions of others through use of their power alone.
- Telekinesis, allowing the empowered subject to be able to lift up to ten pounds and throw that amount at 104 kmh.
- Atmospheric Manipulation, allowing the empowered subject to be able to affect the weather by up to fifteen degrees within a mile radius, able to cause brief gusts of wind at 105 kmh.
- Any power less dangerous than the ones listed above are also considered D-Class Powers, but by United States law all metahumans are considered armed and dangerous, and even D-Class metahumans with less impactful abilities than those above are still required for a bi-annual check-in where they may be subject to power measurement and other procedures.
