Welcome to the pre-launch SuperMUD wiki.

This will serve as an initial information hub for SuperMUD, an upcoming™ MU that will be the premier superhero game for our community. The final product of our website will look better than this, but this will be a way to organize information and offer insights for future characters.

In the world of SuperMUD, from the dawn of time, humans have been drawing on sources of magic to change the weather, win wars, or extend the lives of others. The first practitioners learned very quickly that magic could be used for great harm in the wrong hands and guarded their secrets, with the benevolent seeking to protect it from those who would use it for evil, and those same dark practitioners jealously keeping that power from the common person.

In the early sixth century, two powerful magicians, the mythical Merlin and the godlike Morgan le Fay used powerful spells to enhance the physical abilities of the armies they maneuvered against each other in the battle of Camlann. Realizing that their continued magic duel might be catastrophic to the Earth, Merlin brought all individuals present at the battle into a hollow Earth dimension filled with mythical creatures and magical energy, which would be dubbed Avalon by the legendary King Arthur.

For a long time afterward magical and superhuman abilities, already scarce, seemed to fade from history. It wasn't until WWII that a man named Samson Knight exhibited extraordinary intelligence and created a serum that was able to grant an otherwise ordinary soldier superhuman abilities that other countries involved revealed their own similarly gifted soldiers. It was only after the war was over that the first Diver incident happened, where two individuals possessing impossible strength, the ability to fly, and a suite of other abilities came from a portal in the sky and nearly destroyed California.

The winner of the battle called himself Jericho, a Diver, and warned of others of his kind, a species of human from a parallel dimension that all possessed similar abilities to him. And from the portal, the Divers came through, cosmic radiation caused the emergence of metahumans. Several other Diver incidents have happened since, and the more these incidents happen, the more prevalent superhuman abilities have become, with every one out of 100 humans becoming a metahuman. As more and more people became increasingly powerful, the world's governments had to develop even greater technology, and eventually true artificial intelligence became commonplace.

In the early 21st century, first alien contact was made with humanity as a whole in the form of the Hive, a hostile coalition of insect-like aliens that would have conquered the Earth if it wasn't for the presence of metahumans, Jericho, magicians, and more, specifically the Vanguard, the Earth's most powerful team of superheroes.

The game will take place in 2027, and at this point in time, superheroes and supervillains are a way of life. In Bendis City, a place that has been the epicenter of Diver incidents, the Hive invasion, and more, it's an everyday occurrence to hear or see a super brawl on the streets or in the sky. The American government tries to regulate these individuals with the Department of Metahuman Control (the DMC), but the DMC itself is sometimes under scrutiny for its brutal tactics, especially at the hands of its own metahuman agents. Life is crazy in Bendis City, but the housing is one of the most affordable in the country, and a lot of people flock there to become great or just brush against greatness.
